Financial literacy consists of an individual's ability to apply financial knowledge and skills in real-life situations and utilize behaviors and attitudes to influence sound financial decisions. Financial literacy across sociodemographic groups varies significantly. Studies have confirmed that financial knowledge positively correlates with age and income and is higher among men than women. According to the 2020 P-Fin Index, developed by TIAA, individuals with greater financial literacy spend less time dealing with personal finance issues than those who have low financial literacy levels. Results have also shown that financial knowledge was drastically lower among Blacks and Hispanics than Asians and Whites (National Financial Capability Study, 2019).
